Introduction
Welcome to today’s free step-by-step course on how to start selling digital products. Today, you’re going to learn how to build a digital product business from scratch, how to set up your online store to sell them in, how to build your digital product, and how to grow your business and get sales.
I’m going to walk you through this step by step. First thing we need to do is set up an online store to host these digital products in.
Quick note: this article may contain affiliate links, so I may earn a small commission if you sign up or purchase through some of the links mentioned below, at no extra cost to you.
Step 1: Create an Online Store
There is now a free AI online store builder specifically for digital products that will create you a digital product custom store in less than 10 minutes. Once you click that link, it will bring you to this page. Click on get my free store, then click on sign up to Shopify.
Here we’ll go through the Shopify sign up process. Click start for free, put in your email, and click continue with email. You’ll be asked a few basic questions. Go through these questions and you’ll be brought to your dashboard.
Installing the Store Builder
Come back to the AI store builder page and click install Instas store AI, then click install again. This allows the store builder to work. Next, click choose your niche. If you don’t know what your niche is yet, don’t worry — pick the closest one to yours if you don’t see an exact match, or choose whichever one interests you most right now. You can always switch this up later.
Select your banner, then click generate theme. Now you can go back to your Shopify dashboard and click online store, and you’ll see your digital product online store is ready to go. This would have taken hours five years ago to do.
Step 2: Get a Domain
When it comes to branding your store, another thing I always recommend is getting a custom domain. I’ve been choosing .store domains for all of my websites. I use a .store instead of a .com because it tells your customers exactly what your site is about before they even click. It boosts your visibility across Google and looks cleaner and more official. Big names like Rihanna, Mr. Beast, and Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly use .store domains too for their brands.
There is a promotion going on right now where you can get a .store domain for only $0.99. Use this code and pick whatever you want to get that price. To connect it, follow the instructions provided after purchase — it links directly to your Shopify store. If you get stuck, reach out to .store domains support; they’re helpful with getting things connected.
Step 3: Create Your Digital Product
Choosing a Winning Digital Product
Now it’s time to create our first digital product to put in the store. What makes a winning digital product? The two questions I always ask myself with any online business: Who is my target audience, and who is an ideal person I can help with this digital product? I made a list of a bunch of ideas you can use right here — these are the most popular digital products across the internet. You can never go wrong with ebooks, especially as a beginner.
I love to go on Instagram and search the entire platform to see what people are selling right now. A bunch of options come up, and I look at how each one is being marketed. By looking at a variety of creators, I take inspiration from what’s working, what’s going viral, and what people request in the comments. Doing this really helps me get ideas.
Creating the Product With AI
There are two ways to create digital products. You could build your own using Canva and write it up yourself, but here in 2026, that’s not really how it’s done anymore — we’re using AI. AI can help you move much faster. I’ll show you today how to do it with AI, because as much as I respect people who spend months creating the “perfect” digital product, it’s never actually going to be perfect. I’d rather get this done as fast as possible for you.
We’re still going to use our own knowledge and value, but AI will speed up the process significantly. One of the best AI tools on the market right now is Trend Assist AI. This tool helps you generate a winning niche and strategy, build your digital product from scratch, and generate Instagram carousels so you can start marketing right away.
Niche Discovery
Start by logging in and creating an account. Once you’ve made an account, you’ll land on this page. Under the digital products tab, click on niche discovery. You’ll take a short personality and passion quiz that generates a specific niche strategy and even tells you what digital products to sell in that niche.
Go ahead and fill this out — it doesn’t have to be too serious, just do your best answering the questions. Once you reach the market analysis, you’ll get a bunch of useful information for your strategy and brand. If you land between a few options, you can compare how much revenue potential each one has. It’s a great way to help narrow things down.
Building the Ebook
Next, go to the ebook builder tab, underneath niche discovery. With the information from the niche discovery step, these questions get much easier to answer. Fill this out using what you already know: What do you want the ebook to be about? Who is your target audience? How many chapters and words per chapter do you want, and what writing style are you going for?
Add any other requirements that are helpful for the AI, along with anything you already know about your topic. Then click generate ebook, and in minutes, it will produce your entire digital product for you.
Formatting the Ebook Template
Once you have your ebook, click on templates — the tab underneath that. Pick whichever template is closest to your niche, click open in new tab, then view template, and open it in the editor. Now your ebook template is ready to go.
I like to split my screen so I can see my ebook copy on one side and the Canva template on the other. Copy and paste everything over to the template, and swap out any pictures by hovering over them and selecting a replacement. Once you’re done, click share and download, choose PDF standard under file type, and click download. Now you have your entire digital product saved to your computer.
Uploading the Product to Shopify
Go back to your Shopify store and upload the product under products. Add a title and description, then click save. For the product picture, you can screenshot your PDF and use that as the cover photo.
For a more professional look, go to Canva and search digital product mockup. You’ll find plenty of free options that show your product on an iPad or phone, which looks more realistic since that’s closer to how a customer will actually see it. If you want to make other changes, like updating the logo, go into Shopify, open online store, and customize the colors and theme from there.
Automating Delivery
You’ll also need an app to automate delivery, so the ebook is sent straight to the customer’s email when they make a purchase. Go to apps on your Shopify dashboard and search for digital downloads. This option is free — click install, then install again.
You’ll land on the digital downloads dashboard. Click add asset, upload your PDF ebook or other digital product, and it will appear in your Shopify product area. Click save, and back on your dashboard you’ll see the ebook attached to your product listing. From now on, every sale automatically sends the ebook to the buyer. Your online store is now ready to go, with your digital product live and set to deliver itself.
Step 4: Get Sales
Now let’s talk about how to actually get sales. The Trend Assist AI tool we just used also has a carousel generator. Go back to Trend Assist AI and click carousel generator. Fill out your niche topic, preferred style, color palette, and any image references you’d like to replicate, along with how many slides you want — I always recommend three or more. Click generate, and it will create carousels you can use across your social media pages.
Carousels are one of the best ways to grow your Instagram account right now, especially valuable ones. I think the best approach is combining carousels with videos to promote your digital product.
Showing Your Face or Staying Faceless
This can be done completely faceless. Showing your face is a huge plus if you’re comfortable with it, but starting without it is completely fine too, at least until you find your groove. I know plenty of people who started faceless and eventually showed their face once their confidence grew — often because it brought in more followers.
Showing your face doesn’t mean you have to sit and talk to a camera, since I wasn’t good at that at first either. It can simply mean showing a glimpse of you working, or if you’re selling a fitness-related product, showing yourself exercising. It really depends on what you’re doing — there are plenty of faceless ways to create content that doesn’t involve your face or voice at all.
Step 5: Promote on Pinterest
Another awesome platform is Pinterest. You can post your content straight to Pinterest and tag your digital product through the pin link. That’s another great way to drive sales for your digital products.
Using B-Roll Footage
Another useful asset is B-roll footage you can reuse repeatedly to promote your digital product — footage of the product in action. This could be a video of your digital product on your laptop, or scrolling through it on an iPad. Showing the product itself gives you flexible B-roll you can use however you decide to market it.
Step 6: Optimize Your Profile
Keep your profile fresh and clean, since it’s what you’ll be using to promote your digital product. Your bio should clearly reflect what you’re offering. Here’s a bunch of example bios worth studying — most top creators in this space use a similar bio structure, just tweaked slightly, always with a clear call to action.
That’s what makes content creation easier once you already have a digital product ready: you already know what you’re promoting, so you can focus on finding ways to grab people’s attention for that specific product.
Free Course
When it comes to editing and filming videos, I put together an entire free course for this called my free marketing course.
