1 Online Focus Group Participant

Companies and researchers are desperate for honest feedback and they’re willing to pay good money for it. Online focus groups can cover anything from testing a new app to evaluating ad campaigns or websites and most sessions are done over Zoom or a special platform and they usually last about 30 minutes to 2 hours. You can find gigs on sites like User Interviews, Respondent, and FocusGroup.com. Sign up for each because this is a numbers game and depending on where you live or your age you’re not going to get accepted to all focus groups right away, so apply on each site to improve your odds.

2 Mystery Shopper

Not the kind where you have to go into a retail store. They now need mystery shoppers for websites where you test sites or shop to see if it’s user friendly, testing speed and functionality. For example they might send you to a site and ask you to purchase a product, you get reimbursed, then they ask how the checkout process was and if it ran smoothly. You get paid for your time and reimbursed for what you bought. Some great sites are IntelliShop, MarketForce, and Pinecone.

3 Online Juror

If you’re a crime buff this is a fun opportunity. Law firms like to perform mock trials before going to court and that’s where online jurors come in. You will read the case, weigh the evidence, and give your verdict. It’s an exciting part time gig and it pays well. You can make anywhere from 10 to 60 dollars per case depending on length and you don’t need legal experience, you just give your opinion. Some of the best sites to find these positions are eJury and OnlineVerdict.

This takes some capital so it’s not for everybody but it’s an exciting side hustle that can make really good money. You go to websites like Flippa where owners list their sites and show how many views they’re getting, if they’re earning anything, how much they’re making and how old the site is. You can bid on sites like buying an old car that you fix up. Then You would buy a site you know something about just like you wouldn’t buy a Hyundai if you only fix up Fords. If you’re into sports or health you might find a site getting traffic but the owner isn’t doing anything with it, and if you think you can improve the design, the SEO and monetize it you can fix it and flip it for profit.

5 AI Trainer

Artificial intelligence needs humans to make it smarter and as an AI trainer you’re going to help refine algorithms by labeling data, reviewing responses, or categorizing content. You might tag images to teach AI how to recognize objects or provide feedback on chatbot responses. Companies like Appen, Lionbridge, and Amazon Mechanical Turk offer these roles. These are more side gigs than full time jobs and pay varies. Some pay per project, others per hour, anywhere from 15 to 25, so the more gigs you take the more money you can make.

6 Narrating Audiobooks

This is a big business and you can even set up a studio at home. Some people have audio studios in their closets and make great money. If people have told you that you have a good voice or even if not, you can try audiobook narration and you don’t need fancy equipment. A microphone and free software like Audacity is enough. Authors and publishers post books that need narrators on platforms like ACX and you audition for projects then get paid per finished hour or through royalties. I recommend you get paid per hour because most of these books are not big sellers so always ask for a set rate upfront.

7 Language Translation and Localization

If you speak another language translation gigs are in high demand. Localization goes further by adapting content to fit cultural norms so you might localize a game by changing jokes, colors, or references to make them fit a specific audience.
